The WorkYou will live in a specialized school for children with hearing problems and will work in the school garden planting trees and bushes, making flower beds and doing similar kind of outside work together with children. Creative initiatives are welcomed! The school is placed on the suburbs of Krasnoyarsk in a beautiful forest area, which provides opportunities for walking, climbing and just a nice pastime outside. There are more than a hundred pupils aged 7-19, half of them live in the school. You will participate in various cultural activities and hiking along with the children. You will be surprised to see how friendly, kind and open they are
The PlaceSiberia… A huge area on the map of Russia and a huge white spot in the mind of a foreigner. It is very often associated with a -500C frost, "Siberian barber" - the famous film by S.Mikhalkov, bears and wild beardy Russian people in felt boots and furry hats :) Its scope takes your breath away, its nature is not similar to anything you have ever seen, its people are absolutely unique and very hospitable. So… you have a chance to feel it by your own :)Krasnoyarsk, founded in early XVII century, is an industrial, scientific and cultural centre of the Krasnoyarsk region in Eastern Siberia. The region alone is ten times as big as Great Britain and 4.5 times as big as France. Its territory stretches for 4.000 kms from north to south and encompasses a variety of climatic zones – steppe and taiga, tundra and arctic desert. Krasnoyarsk is situated on the banks of one of the greatest Russian rivers the Yenisei. The state nature reserve “Stolby”(translated as “pillars”) boasts a hundred of quaintly-shaped rocks found in taiga, it is one of the main attractions of the city favoured by citizens and visitors. The city counts with a bit less than a million people. In 2003 it was named “The most accommodated among Russian cities”. Nowadays it also deserves the name of The city of fountains, as there are 140 of them around the city. It’s a major cultural and educational centre with 5 theatres, 3 concert halls, many museums, galleries and around 13 higher educational institutions.Be prepared for a 3 day trip by train. In fact traveling across Russia and “living” in a train is a unique experience, a wonderful chance to see the country and to make a united volunteer team even before the project has started!

The WorkThe distance from St.Petersburg to Valaam is approximately 220km. A lot of monks live here today, some of them renovate old churches, other work in the fields. A lot of people help them to save cultural heritage, and due to them a lot of churches of Valaam are already renovated. You task will be to help the monks in cleaning the fields, cutting down grass, preparing firewood. You will work in the kitchen, with domestic animals, in the garden. Very often volunteers are asked to help at the monastery farm, which is known by its wonderful atmosphere and kitchen! Attention: the physical work is really PHYSICAL! Besides this, according to the monastery rules you should be wearied in a proper way. What means: no open torso for boys (and for girls of course). So, boys are asked to have long trousers and T-shirts and girls are asked to have skirts and headscarves. Fairly speaking, this rule is much more helpful than strict - it let to protect your sensitive bodies from huge Russian MOSQUITOS!!! bzzzz…During the free time you will have a chance to visit different churches and temples situated at Valaam and learn much about Russian orthodox culture.
The PlaceProject will take place at the fantastic island of Valaam - one of the most picturesque places and beautiful monasteries in the Northwest of Russia. It is sometimes called "Mount Athos of the North". Valaam, surrounded by the archipelago of more than 50 beautiful small islands, is situated in Ladoga Lake - the biggest freshwater lake in Europe with the average width of 83km!! and maximum depth of 230m!. During its centuries-old history, the Monastery has undergone devastation and desolation time and again. But, by God's mercy, every time it revived again. In atheistic Soviet Union Monastery has also undergone devastation. But on December 14, 1989, a ship moored in the harbour, there were the first six monks on board and gradually monastic life started to revive. Since that day, the new history of Valaam began. A great amount of temples and churches are situated here, a lot of pilgrims come every summer to visit Holy Earth and to help in renovation works. You can see photos of Valaam at www.valaam.ru
Where to stay? On the island accommodation will be provided in the dormitory (3-20 persons in one room). Shower is available twice a week. You should take sleeping bags, working gloves and clothes with you. The monastery provides vegetarian food.

Renowned for its maritime past, the island houses several places of historical interest, in particular, the fort of Liédot. This fort was built at the turn of the 19th century to defend against naval attacks. With its own characteristic arcitechture, the island is today protected as if it were historical monument. Throughout the year the community runs events and activities to bring a sense of liveliness to the village. As certain parts of the site are damaged, the first step is to restore the pathways, reparing affected areas. As regards most of the time, there will be restoration activities, gardening, and building activities while in the afternoon different workshops to organize the festival and exchange about political situation of the representative for the different countries and discussions about the values behind our desire to participate and volunteers at our communities around the world. Free time activities: the youth group will prepare an historical visit guide to recuperate the town memories, we will spend a camp day to live a typical “gaucho” experience of working with the cattle and we´ ll have natural treks by different places (the places where there was the quebracho explotation), where we can do different activities such as fishing. Also we will visit and have a short time activities at the cooperatives headquarters: milk and cheese production, and woodwork.
The Placethe historical town of Villa Ana has an important story to tell within the history of Argentina. The town was the centre of power of a british company of tanino explotation. Behind the ruins of the factory, and after the companies left the town… kids, youngsters, adults and old people are looking for alternative ways to bring it back to life and to create new participation and productive ideas. The Youth Group “El Quebrachito” is developing within the community social activities to promote social change. The group´ s actions are an example of how together the social change is possible.

The WorkPROJECT:The association Integration Schollenhof started to rebuild a very old and empty farm, the Schollenhof a few years ago, in order to make it useful for the children of an integrative Montessori- school. The emotional history of this deserted homestead goes way back to the Middle Age. The first documented record was made in 1319.Lots of the rooms inside are stil in the olf fashioned style of the old farm houses of the region. For this reason it was used as a historic scenery for a television series about the 20s. Today the Schollenhofist a meeting place for handicaped and non handicaped people. Later it will be a place for their living. WORK: A garden, a pottery with furnice, stables for horses, goats, sheeps and geese as well as a bread bakery were already created. However there is still much to do. You could build a stable fence for the horse, renew a wall in traditional loam, maintain and harvest the garden and do numerous other renovation works.
The PlaceWagshurst is located in the Upper-Rhine lowlands between Schwarzwald and the bordering territory with France. Every day looking from the the yard, one can see the panorama of Schwarzwald, and the forest starting right behind the yard. The area is very famous for its beautiful scenery and cherry tree flowers in the spring.

The WorkYour task will be to plant 16 000 :) seeds of conifers (pine, cedar, fir-tree) on the territory of a national reserve. So you will experience working in a forester’s shoes. Besides you will have a chance to take part in a territory cleaning, ploughing up virgin land and building fences.
It’s a major cultural and educational centre with 5 theatres, 3 concert halls, many museums, galleries and around 13 higher educational institutions.Uyar is a local city of just 60 years old. The Trans-Siberian Railway «Moscow - Vladivostok» passes through it. So you will arrive right to the project site by a direct train form Moscow. But!!! The distance is a little bit big :) So please, be prepared for a 3-4 day train. In fact traveling across Russia and “living” in a train is a unique experience, a wonderful chance to see the country and to make a united volunteer team even before the project has started!
Where to stay? Most probably in tents (2-4 persons). Please bring sleeping bags and mats. Another possible option is living in a local school and eating in the canteen. You should be prepared for both. Food: You’ll cook for yourself on fire and eat in a self – organized canteen right in the camp
NotePlease bring working clothes, mosquito repellent.
